January Sweet Wine Selection – Rockbridge Lexington & Concord

2010 Rockbridge Lexington & ConcordWith 4% residual sugar, this 100% Concord grape wine has the spirit of a summer picnic.  A Silver medalist in the 2012 Governor’s Cup competition, the deep purple almost opaque color fills the glass from rim to rim.  The jammy nose (pun intended) is filled with dominant Concord grape jelly tones and an undercurrent of blackberries.  The somewhat viscose attack is surprisingly well balanced for the sweetness.  The full midpalate continues on the Concord theme but has hints of baked strawberries as well.  The medium length finish includes hints of baked pie crust and red cherries.  This well balanced wine has a pleasing mouth feel and is especially well suited for after dinner sipping. Pair it with salty cheeses, salads or a light meal
