June Sweet Wine Selection Horton Vineyards 2011 Rkatsiteli

Dennis Horton is a true Virginia wine character. Over the years, he has continues to innovate in varietal selection and in distribution.  Horton’s Orange County winery is a must see for anyone interested in the Virginia wine industry.  Tasting is a delight due to the multitude of labels and varietals Dennis (and winemaker Mike Heny) produce.

Rkatsiteli is likely one of the oldest Vinifera wine grape varieties dating back to 3000 BC.  Horton’s 2011 Rkatsiteli (known as R-Cats) features an aromatic nose of orange zest and honeysuckle.  The attack is bright with rose pedals and lighter than anticipated acid.  The finish is clean with a touch of acid with lemon zest and honey.
