June Editor’s Note

Wow – Thank you to all the Virginia Wine Club members who stopped in to say hello at Vintage Virginia earlier this month.  I hosted the sold out Top 5 tasting tent where we tasted 42 different wines (twice) each day.  I am hosting a similar, but different, the “You be the Judge” tasting tent at the Virginia Wine Festival in September.  Get your tickets now as it may sell out as well.

Wine grapes are now past pollination and moving forward in their maturation process, fruit set. Fruit set is when the grape flesh and skin tannins begin to develop. Limited green pruning will take place this month as some grapes fail to achieve fruit set or are vines are too robust (overburdening the structure).

After working every weekend for the past three months, the Virginia Wine Club ambassadors are looking forward to the annual mid summer festival break.

As always, thank you for including me on your Virginia wine journey.

Respectfully submitted,

Neil Williamson Editor, Virginia Wine Journal, Chairman, VWC Tasting Panel
